Abortion law reform on the cards

22.02.2012 10:37 - By Nathalie Jones

Justice Minister Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón announced plans to reform the law on abortion in force since July 2012.

The Government believes minors should have their parents’ consent in order to terminate a pregnancy

The Government wants to make it obligatory for minors to have their parents’ consent in order to terminate a pregnancy.

Popular Party Justice Commission spokeswoman Beatriz Escudero told press the aim was to return to the 1985 law, which would decriminalize abortion in only three cases: risk to the physical and psychological health of the mothers; serious malformations in the foetus; and violation.
