The Christmas Season is finally over and many of us, having over-indulged, will have started yet another year thinking about losing weight. Well to all my fellow weight-watchers, if you aren’t already involved, why not get into crafting?
Taking up a new hobby can take your mind off thinking about food, and if you are anything like me you will be jumping up and down all the time to collect all that you need when crafting. As most crafters will tell you, when you do get immersed in your chosen craft, the time just flies by and you don’t even want to stop for meals. Of course if you have a partner, then you probably have to keep focused on meal times.

The next main card theme is Valentine’s Day and I’ve designed this pretty card to give you some inspiration. Remember you don’t have to make the card exactly as shown: just use it as a guideline and utilise things that you already have in your craft box.
Here are the instructions for my card.
You will need the following:
- White double heart aperture three fold card (Katy Sue Designs)
- Glitterati cream and gold paper
- Red glossy or glitter card
- Gold card
- 15mm wide red organza ribbon
- 7mm white satin ribbon
- Six red and one white small paper roses
- Gold card
- Gold edging peel off that will bend
- Double-sided tape
- 3mm double-sided sticky pads
- Silicone glue
- Collall glue
- Small heart punch
- A small red gem
- Red Marvy Matchable Dye ink pad
- Softscape tool or sponge
- Happy Valentine’s Day stamp (Personal Impressions)
- Cut a piece of the Glitterati paper large enough to cover the two hearts and attach to the inside of the card behind the hearts aperture with Collall glue. Be very careful when you do this, as you don’t want the glue to ooze through and show on the right side.
- Still working from the inside, fold over the left hand side of the card and stick it to the back of the middle part with the aperture. You should now have a normal two-fold card.
- With the front side uppermost gently dab the Softscape tool onto the red ink and then drag from off the card onto the card to colour the edges and shade. This should give you a very subtle colour shading to make your card look less stark and more interesting.
- Cut a small piece of gold card 3cm x 12.5cm wide and wrap a piece of red ribbon around the front, securing the ends on the reverse with double sided tape.
- Wrap the white ribbon around the gold card so it is centred on top of the red ribbon and secure as before.
- Now stick this onto the bottom of the card, leaving 1.5cm of white card showing below with double-sided tape.
- Stamp or stick your greeting to a piece of white card and then layer it up three times with red, gold and then red card again. It is quite a nice idea to vary the width of these layers. Then attach with double-sided sticky pads to the bottom right of the card overlapping the ribbon piece as shown.
- Place the gold peel off around the double hearts.
- Make a little posy with the flowers, having the white one in the centre. Then taking one of the stalks, wrap it tightly around the others to keep it all in place. Attach to the heart aperture with silicone glue.
- Make a red bow and attach to the bunch of flowers with a glue dot over the place where the wire is wrapped.
- Finally punch out a heart shape and attach to the corner of the other heart as shown.
- Finish by sticking a little red gem with silicon onto the top right hand side of the heart.
This card would also make a pretty anniversary or even a wedding card just by changing the colour scheme slightly. Try to think outside the box and just let these ideas inspire you into making up your own designs.
