Cute puppies birthday card

This month we have designed a very simple and quick card, which even a beginner could make without too much difficulty. It’s the sort of card you could make really quickly if you have just remembered that you have forgotten to make one and you need to get it in the post today. It’s based around a lovely stamp set using two delightful puppies and makes a nice card for any sex.  Who wouldn’t be delighted to receive such a cute card? There are four puppies of different sorts in the stamp set along with several doggie accessories and sentiments. We have used this stamp set in a workshop before and everyone seemed to have their favourite puppy.

Who wouldn’t be delighted to receive such a cute card?

You will need the following:

  • An A4 piece of dark brown card

  • A piece of paw print card 11 x 5.5cm

  • Gold card 15 x 7.5cm

  • Piece of white card big enough to stamp the two puppies on

  • Piece of black paper or card

  • Clear Stamp Set “Man’s Best Friend” FRCL119

  • Black pigment ink

  • Clear embossing powder

  • Heat gun

  • “Happy Birthday” peel off sticker

  • Glue or double-sided tape

  • 1mm double-sided foam pads

  • M & Folding board

  • Colouring medium

  1. With the short side of the brown card against the butt bar of the folding board, score line four to make a DL card. Fold and cut off the surplus card to use later.

  2. Stamp and emboss two of the puppies on the white card using the black pigment ink and clear embossing powder.

  3. Colour them with whatever medium you prefer. I used a brown dye pad stamped onto a tile and used a water brush to pick up the colour. I find that gives a nice soft colour and looks quite professional. When dry, cut out leaving a tiny white border. (If you cut too close to an embossed line it can tend to ping off the embossing, so it’s best to leave a little border to avoid this happening.) I think the finished result looks better with the border anyway.

  4. Attach the two puppies with 1mm foam pads to the black paper and cut out leaving a small border again.

  5. Cut the paw print card to make two 5.5cm squares and stick the puppies, one on each, toward the bottom of the square. Then layer the whole thing onto the remaining brown card and trim leaving a small border.

  6. Cut the gold card in two to make two 7.5cm squares, line up the squares, as you like onto the front of the card, making sure to leave enough space for the greeting to go in-between.

  7. Attach the gold squares at an angle to the front of the card and then the finished dog squares on top.

  8. Finish by placing the peel-off greeting in the centre between the two toppers as shown and you’re done.

I hope you like this card, which really relies on its simple design and colour scheme for impact.
